Mixed Media Figurative Art

I drew these mixed media ladies this week for my Etsy shop. They're all 18 x 24 with colored pencil on kraft paper with some acrylic paint thrown in for good measure. They'll also be available in my Zazzle store and probably elsewhere in print and wrapped canvas format. I just need to get around to adding them first. These drawings are all based on photos by Marcus Ranum.

Life Drawing

More life drawing from last week's session. This one is coloured pencil on kraft paper (my fave).

I tired using chalk pastels last week (for the first time) and that didn't go over so well. I don't have a clue what I'm doing with them so I'll have to give it another few whirls and do a bit of experimenting. I did manage to color my clothing though. That was fun. :)

Party Invitations! Fun!

I made some invitations for my Zazzle store. These can be personalized and new information added for your own parties. They're printed on various sorts of paper for you to choose from.

I went with a Day of the Dead design for one and the ultra smiling cat on the other. He's one of my more popular designs. I guess it's the big grin. It's catchy! :)

Mixed Media Red Heads

A pair of pretty mixed media red heads on kraft paper (backed with illustration board). These were drawn in pencil with marker used for the hair. And book pages too!

Both are available from my Etsy shop. They're 4 x 6" originals.

Pretty Calavera Girl

Here's a pretty calavera girl for my Etsy shop. I hope to paint a series of these since they're so much fun. Time pending!

This is acrylic with gel pens on illustration board with a coat of varnish for protection.

Art Nouveau Red Head with Daisies

Here's a pretty art nouveau style portrait painted for my Etsy store. I finally managed to get things sorted with descriptions, shipping and whatnot. I swear that the admin for selling art is more work than the actual art!

I hope to do some more art nouveau style portraits as well as some of my fave - Day of the Dead.

If you're interested, head over to my Etsy store to check out this portrait and some others as well as some ACEO prints now available.

Mini Portraits

Here's another mini lady portrait, in acrylic. I'll stick this on Etsy.... when I get around to opening the store. So much information to gather for one little item. Who said painting was the hard part? I think it's actually putting together all of the descriptions and tags and shipping info.

Life Drawing

Couple from the life drawing session this week. Both are about 20 minutes or so, done on colored pencil.

Mini Paintings

I did a couple of mini paintings today for my (soon to be) Etsy store. These are both 5 x 3.5 and are done in acrylic. I thought I'd start in on a new series of painted ladies and these are the first two from the set. Many more on the go! And they're quick to paint since they're so small. I love minis.

King Henry 8.5

This week's drawing prompt at IllustratedATCs was King Henry 8.5. I have no idea what that means or if it has a meaning. I went with a beauty pageant though I think King Henry was more like a 1 or  2 on  the beauty scale. There's a brave soul on the left hiding her face and giving him a 2. I hope she kept her head.

It's a quickie sketch, about 20 mins or so in Photoshop.

Illustration Friday: Tribute

I absolutely LOVED the series, Slings & Arrows starring Paul Gross, Martha Burns and Don McKellar. It was a comedic take on a small Shakespearean company with a host of eccentric characters. It was brilliant, witty and so compelling. This illustration is a tribute to that great avant-garde director, Darren Nichols (played by Don McKellar). And it fits perfectly for this week's Illustration Friday.

Painted in Photoshop and I used scanned textures to make this a mixed media digital.

Life Drawings

A couple of recent life drawings. One from a session today and the other from last week.

The model at left has the most beautiful profile. She has a nose like Madame X and it's gorgeous. Too bad my profile drawing didn't turn out so well! Next time.

Book Lover

I love to read and I love to be surrounded by books. This would have been my favourite corner when I was little, perhaps even now (though I'd probably need a couch in there somewhere!). A good book, a nice tea and some pilllows. Sounds good.

Sketched in Photoshop for an illustration series I'm working on.
